Pay KSh 2m if You Want Hyena Named after You, Najib Balala.
According to Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary (CS), Najib Balala, a hyena in Kenya can be named after you or any other of your preferred names.
Hyena-naming bragging rights come in collaboration with Kenya Wildlife Service and Magical Kenya in that those who want hyenas named after them must pay KSh 2 million in exchange for the hyena-naming bragging rights.

Speaking during the Magical Kenya Tembo Naming Festival held in Amboseli on Saturday, October 9, Balala said hyenas are not endangered; that is why they have never been a naming festive for hyenas like elephants
“Any animal can be named, but we opted to start with the elephants because they are the once who are most endangered,” the CS explained. Balala said that with the increasing numbers of elephants, the country had no choice but to develop innovative ways to conserve the animals. The CS said the Magical Kenya Tembo Naming Festival was just one of the many initiatives his ministry was curating to pool funds for conservation. The adoption naming of an elephant is KSh 50,000, so far, 30 elephants have been named, and Kenya has 36,000 elephants.
In regard to this, Balala noted that tourism was picking up ahead of the festive season. He also said elephant poaching had gone down in the past years, attributing it to peaceful co-existence between human beings and wild animals.
“We are witnessing an increase in the birth rate of the elephants because of peace between wildlife and human beings and also last year people were not moving around because of COVID-19,” he said.
