The New Chief of Defence Forces

Lieutenant General Robert Kariuki Kibochi has been promoted and appointed as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Designate by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta. Major Franklin Levi Mghalau has been promoted TO Lieutenant General and appointed as the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Designate.

General Robert Kariuki replaces General Samson J. Mwathethe whose term of service has come to an end after serving the military for 42 years, five of which he has the Chief of Defence Forces.

Until his appointment as CDF, General Robert Kibochi was the Vice Chief of Defence Forces.

The President said, “I look forward to working with these officers closely in service to our motherland. For you, General Mwathethe, I wish you fair winds following seas; and the very best in your future endeavours.”

Further, on the advice of Defence council chaired by defence cabinet secretary Amb. (DR.) Monica Juma, the President has upheld the council’s recommendations for various promotions, postings and appointments of KDF officers.
