54 senators vote in favour of Kindiki’s impeachment while Seven (7) senators voted against the motion.
Tharaka Nithi Senator, Hon. Prof Kindiki Kithure who has been doubling up as the Senate Deputy Speaker has lost his seat after a four-hour impeachment motion that saw a total of 54 senators vote in favor of the motion.
This comes after Senate Majority Chief Whip Irungu Kang’ata on Tuesday gave a Notice of Motion to remove Deputy Speaker Speaker Kithure Kindiki, days after reports emerged the Tharaka Nithi Senator was a marked man for snubbing a Senate Parliamentary Group meeting convened by President Uhuru Kenyatta hence accused of gross misconduct and insubordination.
In his speech, Kindiki argued that “I bow in shame to note that we are here today for such an elitist triviality powered by petty, divisive and vindictive politics as the country hurts from the lethal combination of a nearly collapsed economy, a ravaging pandemic, floods …”
Kindiki was also accused of conspiring with Elgeyo-Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen to rubbish president Uhuru’s deed of transfer of functions of Nairobi County government to the national government for the sake of Nairobi residents.
