Man Returns Home 53 Years After He Went Missing

50 years later, a family in Gachiongo village in Tharaka Nithi County is overjoyed to unite with its kin, who disappeared in 1969.

Njeru Mwiru went missing in 1969 when he was still a youth and has come back in his 70s.

In his 53 years away from home, Mwiru says he was staying in Kitui County.

The family was overjoyed to see him with his siblings saying they had never given up and would occasionally search for him.

One of his younger brothers says that he had traversed Ukambani following reports of Mwiru living in that part of lower Eastern.

In his five-decade disappearance, Mwiru neither got married nor had children of his own.

The family says he came home carrying only a sack that had his clothes and panga which he says he bought while in exile.
