Meru receives the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine
Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has this afternoon received the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine containing 6 000 doses that will be administered to 3 000 people. He has led the way by being vaccinated and called on our political leaders across the country who are making statements and utterances aimed at undermining the vaccination exercise to stop misleading the people.
Speaking when he led the kick-off of the inoculation exercise in Meru County where he was the first and most senior official to receive the jab, Governor Kiraitu said the unfortunate utterances by politicians is likely to inspire a lack of confidence in the vaccine and therefore, roll back gains of the fight against the pandemic
The jab will be administered in order of priority with frontline workers in the health sector, uniformed services, and teachers being the first to receive the shot which will be given at intervals of 8 weeks, in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.
The second phase is expected to commence in July where members of the general population will be vaccinated.
