“We Are Still Relevant’ In Mombasa” ODM Emphasizes.

Led by Mombasa Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party chairman Mohammed Khamis, they have dismissed assertions that the party is losing popularity in the coastal region ahead of the next general polls.

Khamis says the city and the coastal region, in general, has been a strong political base of the party led by the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga noting that many aspirants would be jostling for the party’s ticket.

Khamis who was accompanied by Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Aharub Khatri and a host of ODM Members of County Assembly spoke when he received two MCA defectors.

MCAs Feddis Mbura (Mwakirunge ward) an independent ward representative and Ahmed Khamis (Majengo/Mwembe Tayari ward) of Ford-Kenya have joined the party and signaled their intention to defend their seats on an ODM ticket in the August 2022 polls.

The ODM party chairman said the fact that the two rejoined ODM and seek to defend their seats on the party’s ticket means the party is popular on the ground as the 2022 race hots up while terming as falsehood any other narrative being perpetuated by detractors.

He said the party will ensure there are free and fair party nominations ahead of next year’s polls to end rebellion and defections in the party.

Khamis said they will respect the voice of party members who will decide on the candidates to fly the ODM party flag in various elective positions in next year’s polls.

He assured members that there will be free and fair nominations dismissing fears that the party has preferred candidates who will be given direct nominations.

Speaker Khatri said the ODM party is set to welcome more defectors from other parties as to the next years’ polls’ fast approaches.

The Mwakirunge ward representative Feddis Mbura said she was previously in ODM but ditched the party following acrimonious party nominations.

Mbura said she is optimistic that the ODM party nominations will this time round be transparent and free of anomalies.

Those who spoke also decried low voter registration in the region attributing it to an unprecedented level of political apathy among the potential voters.

They noted that having a voter’s card is power and that power begins with voter registration and going out to vote on D-day.
