Poghisio elected new Senate Majority Leader and takes over from Murkomen
West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio has been appointed the new Senate Majority leader and will be deputized by Isiolo senator Fatuma Dullo Adan.
This came after the Jubilee Coalition Senate Parliamentary Group Meeting that was chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday.
State House spokesperson Kanze Dena-Mararon said 20 senators from both Jubilee and Kanu attended the meeting.
On the contrary, Senator Murkomen and Majority Whip Susan Kihika have since rejected the changes saying that the parliamentary Group did not have a quorum and they had not been invited to attend.
The changes have brought mixed reactions among Kenyans with some accepting the changes saying the president has been disrespected for a long time and it was now the time to act.
Others have condemned the act saying Jubilee Coalition is crushing following the disagreement between the leaders asking the deputy president to address the matter.
Elgeyo Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has lost about Sh400,000 in salary and allowances after being dropped from Senate Majority Leader position.
According to his Minority counterpart in the National Assembly, Mr. John Mbadi, the leaders of majority and minority receive over Sh200,000 on top of a normal MP’s salary.
