The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rains that will be experienced in various parts of the country.

The heavy rain is expected over several parts of Kenya. According to the Kenya Meteorological Service, the rains are expected to continue in the Western, Central region including the Nairobi areas, North Eastern, North Western and coastal regions.

The rainfall intensity will progressively increase between Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th in western and central regions including Nairobi areas. The heavy rainfall is expected to reduce across the country on Saturday 25th April 2020.

Listed under the area of concern are Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa,Lamu, Tana River, Marsabit, Taita Taveta,Nairobi, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Embu, Meru, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Isiolo, Samburu,Turkana, Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Garissa, Busia, Kisii, Nyamira, Bomet, Narok, Migori, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, West Pokot, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Vihiga, Bungoma, Homabay, Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega and Nakuru.

The public from the mentioned areas has been urged to keep to safer ground and be on the lookout of potential floods. Residents have been advised to avoid driving through, or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes.
