2,352 Health Workers Test Positive – COVID19

Health workers are the frontline soldiers against COVID-19 and they need to be protected. Currently, 2,352 health care workers have tested positive for the virus, out of which 1,177 are males and 1175 are females. The cumulative fatalities for the health workers are now 30.

However, all health workers in Kenya expect to receive a Covid-19 vaccine early next year. Gavi says it has now secured funds to buy vaccines for nearly 20 percent of the country’s population. Health workers, the elderly, and those in poor health will be the first to be vaccinated.

Experts agree several vaccine candidates could be approved next month or early January. The Geneva-based alliance says it has raised more than Sh200 billion to guarantee at least one billion doses of vaccines for 92 developing countries, including Kenya.

The announcement is a major relief for Kenya, which has lost at least 30, healthcare workers, to the disease, the Ministry of Health has said. Covax AMC is a global initiative – led by Gavi, WHO and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations – to ensure Covid-19 vaccines are available to low-income countries.

COVID-19 Updates

In the last 24 hours, 925 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 5,559. This brings the total number of tested positive cases in the country to 71,729. The youngest is a five-month-old baby while the oldest is 92.

Sadly, 15 patients have lost their lives to the disease bringing the fatality to 1,302.
