President Uhuru Kenyatta has today addressed the nation and extended the night curfew and ban of alcohol sales in restaurants as part of a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.
The President said the countrywide curfew from 9 pm to 4 am will remain in place for another 30 days.
Uhuru also extended the closure of bars and pubs for another 30 days but allowed hotels to sell alcohol to residents.
“In the next 30 days, I’ve also directed that the Ministry of Health in conjunction with all bar owners will develop self-regulating mechanisms as part of their civic responsibility to their clientele in order to allow their resumption,” the President said.

Restaurants are to close by 8 pm.
The number of people attending funerals and weddings was reviewed upwards from 15 to 100 with attendants adhering to health protocols, Uhuru said.
Following the allegations of impropriety at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), Uhuru aid the relevant investigative agencies that are fully seized with the matter.
“Given the compelling public interest on the matter, the relevant agencies should expedite the ongoing investigations and conclude the same within 21 days from the date hereof.
In line with our stated public policy on Zero Tolerance to Corruption, all persons found to be prima facie culpable as a result of those investigations should be brought to book, notwithstanding the public office they hold, or their political or social status.” He added
